Search Engine Optimize Your Page For Top Rankings

Optimizing your web page for search engines is a very important fundamental step that everyone should perform before uploading your page to the world wide web.  We will start this series with the basics on the "Title" in part 1.

This will be an ongoing series to describe all the following steps below when creating your web pages.

Everyone should start with these fundamental core steps when creating or writing content.

*     Strong Keyword Based Title
*     Description That is Well Written
*     Headlines That Include Your Keywords
*     Content That Also Includes Strong Keywords
*     Content With Main Keyword Focus Above the Fold
*     Inbound Links
*     Social Media Options
*     Testing

The title of the page you are posting to or adding content to is one of the most important steps you can take when optimizing a well architectured website.  The title tag should be placed inside the `<head>` tags and kept to a maximum 70 characters.  Most users who search for information will have more than one tab open in their browser so making sure your title tag starts with your most important keywords is a must.

All search engines will place a link to your homepage using the title of your page.  Also when a visitor to your page decides to bookmark it for later use they will almost always leave the original bookmark text (your title) as is without changing it.  Therefore it is imperative that you choose a title that will stand out against all the other bookmarks in your category.

In summary, you should always keep your title around 65-70 characters, always place you keyword first in the title, try to make it stand out from the rest of the competitors in your field and unless you are a well established brand, never place your company name in the title!  If you feel that you must have your company name in the title, then place it last.

Stay tuned for information on the "Description" tag in part two.
